New I-9 Form Effective Feb. 2, 2009
By Sally Piefer The Department of Homeland Security issued a new interim final rule which revises the federal Form I-9. The I-9 is used to verify the employment eligibility of new hires, and provides a list of documents that can be used to satisfy Form I-9 requirements. Effective February 2, 2009, employers must use the revised Form I-9 to verify the employment eligibility of new hires and to reverify the employment eligibility of employees whose work authorization expires; I-9 forms with a revision date of June 5, 2007, are no longer valid after February 1, 2009.
