Final Rules Issued on Automatic Enrollment in Retirement Plans
By Sally Piefer On February 24, 2009, the IRS issued final regulations relating to the automatic enrollment of employees in certain retirement plans, such as Section 401(k) plans, Section 403(b) tax-deferred annuity plans, Section 457(b) governmental plans, and other salary reduction arrangements.
The new regulations include qualified automatic contribution arrangements that are applicable to plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2008, and eligible automatic contribution arrangements that are applicable to plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2010.
