New I-9 Form Available

By Sally Piefer

The Department of Homeland Security recently announced a new version of the

federal Form I-9, (Rev. 08/07/09) Y. This new form expires on August 31, 2012. The
previous edition of the Form I-9, (Rev. 02/02/09) N, expired on June 30, 2009.

Employers can use either the (Rev. 08/07/09) Y or (Rev. 02/02/09) N version of
Form I-9 to verify the employment eligibility of new hires and to reverify the
employment eligibility of employees whose work authorization have
expired. Employers can be penalized if they use a previous version of Form I-9 or
accept any documents not listed on the most current version.

The new forms are available for download below. Questions about

the forms can be directed to Attorney Sally Piefer, at (262) 754-1325 or via email.
